1964
- Steven Tyler forms his first "serious" band, Thee Strangeurs, in Sunapee NH. Tyler would later change the band's name to Chain Reaction, writing songs with their keyboard player, Don Solomon (with whom he co-wrote "Woman of the World"). The band also covers Beatles, Stones, Animals and Yardbirds.
1966
- At the age of 18, Steven Tyler enters the studio for the first time with his band Chain Reaction. They record two singles: "The Sun / When I Needed You" (Date) and
"You Should Have Been Here Yesterday / Ever Lovin' Man" (Verve)
- Meanwhile, Perry and Hamilton form a combo, "Pipe Dream" in Sunapee, NH which by 1969 had become the blues-based, free-form "Jam Band"
1967-68
- March - Chain Reaction opens 4 shows for the Yardbirds One Yardbirds set, at New York's Anderson Theater, is recorded and released as the controversial "Live Yardbirds"
- October - NYC - Tyler, still with Chain Reaction, guests in the studio on backup vocals with The Left Banke, who had a hit with "Walk Away Rene"
1969
- Chain Reaction play occasional high profile gigs, opening for The Beach Boys (Iona College,) and the last lineup of Yardbirds with Jimmy Page (Staples High School in Connecticut)
- Chain Reaction and the Jam Band both play gigs at Sunapee, NH's "The Barn". Tyler witnesses the Jam Band playing Fleetwood Mac's "Rattlesnake Shake"
- "They did this song so well that I knew if I could get together with these guys, we could pull the same feeling off with some songs I wrote, so I got together with them...I loved Joe's style". - Aerosmith's most vital and (often) most overlooked element was synthesized in this union. The Jam Band's wild, unadulterated improv-ability was successfully merged with Chain Reaction's tight, disciplined control to produce the furious but steady blast we know as Aerosmith
1970
- Aerosmith is well received at their first public appearance, playing at Nipmuc Regional High School in Mendon, MA in the late fall
- The newly named Aerosmith play gigs outside of Boston University's Student Union building recognizing that getting close to their fans is the key to success. Sharing an apartment at 1325 Commonwealth Avenue in Boston, the band defines itself in the best possible conditions for a young rock n' roll band to do so
"There were six of us in the group, some of us were living in the kitchen, eating brown rice and Cambell's soup. Those days, you know, when a quart of beer was heaven. It was hard times and it was really good. During lunch we would set up all our equipment outside of BU, in the main square and just started wailing. That's basically how we got billed. 1971
- Guitarist Ray Tabano leaves the band to return years later as a member of the crew, then Director of Marketing during which time he launched the first Aerosmith fan club and worked on developing their merchandise
- Tabano is replaced by Brad Whitford who cut his eye-teeth in rock n' roll at age 16, playing with Teapot Dome, Earth, Inc. and Cymbals of Resistance
- At this point the band is earning about $300 a night and dodging eviction notices and stealing food from supermarkets to survive. Still an unsigned local band, they compete for local press with others like J. Geils and The Modern Lovers
1972
- Steven Tallarico changes his name to Steven Tyler
- Summer - Aerosmith lands a $125,000 deal with Columbia, following a show an New York's Max's Kansas City, when Clive Davis saw them play. The song "No Suprize" chronicals this event
- The band enters Intermedia Sound studios to record Aerosmith their classic self titled debut LP, produced by Adrian Barber. The album was recorded and mixed in just 2 weeks
1973
- January - The first album, Aerosmith, is released on Columbia Records.
- The first LP sells faster than any other album in Boston at the time and gets an outstanding review from Creem Magazine, while going largely unnoticed by other mainstream media
- June - "Dream On" / "Somebody" released as a single. "Dream On" gets #1 song of the year at 2 popular Boston radio stations (WVBF - Framingham, and WBCN - Boston)
1974
- March - The band finish recording Get Your Wings at the Record Plant in New York and release the first single, - Same Old Song And Dance / "Pandora's Box" is released
- September - "Train Kept a Rollin' / "Spaced" (a leftover from their days performing as Chain Reaction) is released as a single
1975 - 76
- April - Toys in the Attic, recorded in NY at the Record Plant, breaks The Top 20
- May - "Sweet Emotion" goes right to #11 and sells 6 million copies.
- Aerosmith plays before a crowd of 80,000 in the Detroit Lion's Stadium, Pontiac Michigan
- "Dream On" is re-released and is a seccess.
- February - Fueled by their recent success, the band begins recording their fourth album Rocks at The Wherehouse in Waltham, MA and Record Plant Studios, New York
- Aerosmith is America's greatest band.
- "Rocks" sells 6 million copies and put the band ahead of Rolling Stones and Bob Dylan.
- "Rocks" is voted the favorite album of the Cream Magazine readers.
1977
- Early '77, band begins its first tour of the Far East in Japan.
- The band sets up headquarters in a quiet, converted 300 room convent known as The Cenacle to record their fifth album, Draw The Line
- October - "Draw The Line" single is released
- The band embarks on "Draw The Line Tour" which lasts through 1978 and early 1979
1978
- Aerosmith makes a concert in Boston and it becomes the album "Live! Bootleg"
- Live! Bootleg is released on Columbia Records
- Joe Perry is featured on Gene Simmons album
1979
- Aerosmith begin work on their seventh album Night In The Ruts
- After some internal turmoil with the band, Joe Perry leaves Aerosmith to further pursue "The Joe Perry Project"
- Jimmy Crespo, formerly of Flame replaces Perry on lead guitar
- Aerosmith goes on tour with the new line-up to support Night in the Ruts
1980
- Aerosmith release Greatest Hits on Columbia Records
- Aerosmith record a cover of "Come Together" of the Beatles
- The Joe Perry Project release their debut Let the Music do the Talking
1981
- Brad Whitford leaves the band
- Rick Dufay replaces Brad Whitford on guitar

- Steven Tyler spends much of the year recovering from a motorcycle accident
1982 - 83
- August - Rock In A Hard Place is released on Columbia Records
- The band sets off on the "Rock In A Hard Place Tour" with Jimmy Crespo and Rick Dufay on guitars. The tour continues into early 1984
- Joe Perry Project Records Once a Rocker, Always a Rocker for MCA Records

- July - Aerosmith enters the studio to record Done With Mirrors with Ted Templeman producing
- November - Done With Mirrors is released on Columbia Records. Aerosmith set out on a world tour in support of their new album
- "Classics Live!" is released
- Tyler and Perry teams up with Run-DMC for a re-make of "Walk This Way", that hits the #4 place on the charts.
1987
- Aerosmith releases "Classics Live! 2", their 3rd live album.
- Aerosmith release their ninth studio album Permanent Vacation. The band get sobber.
- "Permanent Vacation" sells 5 million copies
1988
- September - Aerosmith win their first MTV Music Awards for:

- Joey Kramer has to leave the record sessions in Florida. He's depressed because of the death of his feather. He's replaced by Steve Ferrone.

- The band starts it all again with Kevin Shirley (Silverchair producer) in New York.

- O Aerosmith releases "Nine lives", their 12th studio album.

- July - Joey Kramer's Ferarri catches fire while getting it refueld at a gas station. Joey got out of his car sheilding his face from the flames with his arms. but gets second-degree burns on his left arm and minor burns on his legs. this leads to that they have to reschedule the first 13 dates of their upcoming 50 show US tour
- October - Joe Perry makes his Acting debut on the NBC TV series "Homicide - Life on the street"
- October - an Aerosmith Live show from Holmdel NJ was broadcasted in RealAudio and RealVideo over the Internet on October 17th. what really made this event unique was the viewers' ability to direct the special themselves, switching live between seven separate camera feeds, each broadcasting a different perspective of the concert. Prior to the Cybercast, the band was participating in a chat with America Online giving the fans a chance to Chat with the band
- October - The 2-CD live Album "A Little South of Sanity" is released
1999
- Steven Tyler sues his ex-wife Kathleen Tallarico (Cyrinda Foxe), who intended to include naked pictures of him on her book. Steven won the case.
- "Full Circle" video is released.
- A Litlle South Of Sanity Tour's first concert was on April 11th in Ohio.
- Rock 'N' Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith was opened on Disney-MGM Studios.
- Aerosmith spends New Year's eve on stage in Japan.
- General Motors uses "Sweet Emotion" in their campaigns.
2000
- The band starts the year on vacation.
- Aerosmith records the song "Painted On My Heart" to Gone In 60 Seconds's soundtrack, but it wasn't used and The Cult did the song for the album.
- "Angel's Eye" gets on "Charlie's Angels" soundtrack.
2001
- In the beggining of the year, Aerosmith played the Super Bowl halftime show with pop stars like Britney Spears and N'Sync. The band was very criticized for this.
- Aerosmith releases "Just Push Play".
- The band was inducted to the Rock 'N' Roll Hall Of Fame.
- Aerosmith announced a partnership with Dodge and the songs "Just Push Play" and "Sunshine" are used in the Company's commercials.
- At the end of the year, Aerosmitb plays the United We Stand show honoring the September 11th victims and their families. That same night, they played in Indianápolis on their Just Push Play tour.
2002
- "Young Lust: The Aerosmith Anthology" compilation is released by Geffen Records.
- Aerosmith is honored on MTVIcon, which aired for the first time on April 17th from Los Angeles.
- "Girls Of Summer" single is released.
- "Oh Yeah! The Ultimate Hits" is released by Columbia Records.
- "Girls of Summer" tour begins.
- "Behind The Music" with Aerosmith airs for the first time.
- Steven receives the "RockStyle" awards on VH1 Vogue Fashion Awards. That night he sang "Misery" with Pink.
- Steven and Joe were part of a tribute to Run DMC's Jam Master Jay on Billboard Music Awards.
- The "Girls of Summer" tour ends and comes the first ideas for the next album.
2003
- "Girls of Summer" is nominated to a Grammy and the band is invited to the 45th Annual Grammy Awards.
- Steven given an honorary Doctor of Music degree from Berklee, in Boston. Years before, Brad Whitford and Joey Kramer studied there.
- Aerosmith's next album is annouced: a blues album that will probably be called "Honkin' On Bobo".
- Aerosmith tours with Kiss for the United States in the "Rocksimus Maximus" tour .
2004
- Once again, Aerosmith plays the Superbowl. They go to NASA to tape a video for the event (they also spoke to astronauts and recored an ad for NASA). They played "Baby, Please Don't Go" and "Dream On" at the game.
- "Honkin' On Bobo" is releases on March 30th. It doesn't sells well.
- "Honkin' On Bobo" tour begins and it's very acclaimed by the fans and the critics.
- Brad Whitford gets divorced from Karen.
- Steven Tyler and Joe Perry attend the Grammy Awards to present an award with B B King.
- Aerosmith goes on vacation in august and it will last one year.
- Steven Tyler sings the national anthem in the game 1 of the World Series.
- "you Gotta Move", Aerosmith's first live DVD is released on November 23th.
- Steven makes an appearence in The Polar Express movie.
- "Dream On" is used on Buick commercials.
- Steven Tyler's first grandson was born on December 14th. Liv's son is named Milo William Langdon.
2005
- Steven Tyler receives platinum certificate for "You Gotta Move" DVD, on January 6 in Las Vegas.
- Joe Perry announces the first details of his solo album: it will be called "Joe Perry" and releases in may.
- Steven takes part in a "Tears In Heaven" cover to help the tsunamis victims in Asia.
- Steven attends Grammy Awards to present an award with John Travolta and Christina Milian. The same night, he sings "Across The Universe", to help the tsunamis victims too.
- Steven gets divorced from Teresa Barrick.
- Joe Perry releases his first solo album, 20 years after the end of the Joe Perry Project.
- Brad Whitford has a son, but no one knows about his new relationship and the kid.
- Aerosmith releases another live album (recorded on January 11th in 2002) called "Rockin' The Joint" on October 25th.
- The Rockin' The Joint tour starts on October 30th.
2006
- Steven Tyler and Joe Perry attends Grammy Awards for a tribute performance to Sly Stone. The same night, they played in Oakland in their Rockin' The Joint tour.
- In the begginig of march, the band cancells several concerts "due to illness in the band".
- On March 22th, the band announces the end of the Rockin' The Joint tour, because Steven nedd to undergo a throat surgery. On March 23th, he did it and it was succesfull.
- After 2 months on a break, on May 20th Aerosmith comes back to the studio to record their next album of new songs.
- On September 5th, Aerosmith goes on a new tour through USA and Canada, this time is co-headlining tour with Motley Crue.
- The album can't be finished and the record company decides to put out a new greatest hits compilation, "Devil's Got A New Disguise" on October 17th with two previously unreleased songs: "Devil's Got A New Disguise" and "Sedona Sunrise".
- The tour ends on December 17th and the band goes on vacation.
2007
- The band announces a world tour that will start in April.
- In February, the band goes to London to do a press conference e announces the dates of their new tour in Europe. That same night, they played a secret concert at London's Hard Rock Cafe.
- Aerosmith comes to South America for the second time and goes to places like India, United Arab Emirates, Latvia, Estonia and Russia for the first time.
